The employees and customers of the Deer Creek McDonald’s discovered bad news Monday: Tuesday is the last day the store will be open, and it may or may not reopen.
The McDonald’s, which has been there since the 1960s, according to some customers, is being taken over by the corporation, manager, Nick Muchitello said Monday.
Muchitello said it’s been owned by George Gibson for about 10 years. Muchitello has been there for eight.
He said after Tuesday the store will be torn down and rebuilt, with all new employees.
Another employee, Annette, (last name withheld) said she started at a McDonald’s on Watson Road that was bought out by the corporation which was torn down and never rebuilt, so she’s not sure of the future of the Deer Creek location. She’s been there 13 years.
She said the employees are to go to the Hanley store on Wednesday to “learn their fate.”
Customer, Tom Bakersmith, said in an email he was in the McDonald’s Monday morning.
“A lot of very, very sad people heard the news when they came in,” Bakersmith said. “The place was like family to many of us regulars.”
Note: the McDonald’s is partially in Maplewood and partially in Webster Groves, and is licensed in Webster Groves.

my first job was there I met my sons dad while I worked there my son is 11 so sad
That place holds a lot of memories. Birthdays, dates, and ganging out with friends. I went there as a kid. I took my oldest daughter there, too. The play areas today just aren’t the same.
Not a big fast-food girl, but have brought the kids there many times since it is so convenient and the employees there have always been so sweet and friendly. Good luck to them all.
Gonna miss the old place…..new locations ?? What about the old QT or the Church’s Chicken or the old TKO place (was a Harde’s for years) or next to the CVS ??? McDonald’s
coffee is very good & 1/5 the price of Starbucks…even less if you consider the Senior discount.
Ken
Like it or not, we’re losing a business that employed people & provided a service. Perhaps the old Quiznos or next to CVS would be a good place to build new. Sorry to see it go after all these years…..
Hi Maplewood4Me, I was moved by your employment comment. But did I understand from the article, the last time a new McD’s was built the previous staff was NOT re-hired and all new staff was? imo this economy remains hostile to good workers who are displaced. Praying.
Actually, that McDonalds is in Webster Groves. Not Maplewood
Bill – I believe the Deer Creek McDonald’s is partially in Webster and partially in Maplewood.
I’m sorry for the people who might be losing their jobs. They have been very courteous when I’ve been in the drive through. I had not going to a McDonald’s for many years but came back after getting married and moving to Maplewood.
have been boycotting md’s for over 35 years due to their aggressive advertising practices targeting children with unhealthy food and toys. glad they are leaving*** and hopefully the employees will have better employment opportunities by more responsible businesses ***Interesting comment re the flood plain.
I quit going there 15 years ago when the place was full of old people every morning who would buy 1 cup of coffee and sit there for hours smoking about 20 cigarettes each and coughing all over everything.
the quick trip is gonna be oreilys thats me in the picture idk whats gonna happen to the property here tho
It can’t be rebuilt. It is in an area designated as part of a 100 year flood plain.
Existing structures can be maintained as the McDonalds was, but not enlarged. And new construction is prohibited.
That is why the Deer Creek Shopping center is developed only on the North side. The lower half can only be used as a roadway or for parking..
I hope this doesn’t mean that Mcd’s is looking at the old QuikTrip location
