The Maplewood Family Aquatic Center pool was shut down Friday because someone swimming in it had tested positive for ‘crypto’ [cryptosporidium], according to an announcement from the aquatic center on Saturday. It’s is a parasite that causes diarrhea.
Attention patrons: It was determined that between June and present someone had swam in the Maplewood pool who tested positive for crypto [cryptosporidium]. As a precaution the Health Department asked us to close and shock the pool to ensure the safety of our patrons. As of now, we are working to balance chemicals and are on track to open on time.
The pool hours at The Heights had been cut back (no open swim) Monday through Friday (July 17-21) due to limited staff, to ensure the outdoor pool was well-staffed for the hot week.
The week before, officials fired eight lifeguards following an investigation into a chat group used by the guards.
I’ve stopped visiting public pools years ago. Never know what people have these days.
