The city of Maplewood has posted that a public hearing will be held at the June 4 planning and zoning commission meeting for a permit for a tattoo studio. The notice was also mailed to residents near the location.

Nate Strantkalns of All Star Studios is requesting a conditional use permit for a studio at 2801 – 2803 S. Big Bend Boulevard.

The planning and zoning commission will vote on a recommendation to the city council for the permit.

  1. Considering Maplewood is becoming another Webster/ Kirkwood/ Brentwood , let the Tattoo shop in!! Maplewood will soon be Maplewhite and Schnucks will occupy the old Shop n Save, so enjoy the old Maplewoood while you can. Long may you run mixed communities 🙁

    • Having a tattoo place has nothing to do with no longer being a diverse community. People of all ethnicities have… and get tattoos.

  2. Ah yes, uncle jed strikes again. I hope your going to buy the shop n save building so we can see what type of goodies you can bring to our grest city.

  3. That will go well with the beard waxing place…. Maplewood could be more hipster than the Loop if we really try! How about a poke bar?

    • I know! If we have a tattoo slum imagine how many drugs the kids will be addicted to after getting back door doobie tattoos on their face! A lot of people don’t know this but if you have a tattoo you’re 15x more likely to be hooked on hard street drugs like Tylenol and ibuprofen! I made the mistake of getting a tattoo and now I’m hard slamming fourteen Excedrin an HOUR. #SaveTheKids #NoInkInMySkin

  4. I agree with Kevin 100%. All-Star will be a good addition to hipster Maplewood, and I mean that in a positive way. They will bring a lot of business. Nate does beautiful work.

  5. HEY— as long as they can tattoo the appearance of a “plumber’s butt” that sticks out for everyone to see, i have no problem.

  6. It’s zoned as arterial business. While it doesn’t specify tattoo shop as a pre- approved business, the zoning code goes on to list about every other type of business as approved. It seems like it should be an easy “yes.”
