Maplewood will hold its fourth annual night of block parties, as part of the St. Louis Regional Night Out against Crime, on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Just over 1,200 Maplewood residents took part last year.
The National Night Out began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Maplewood Police Sgt. Michael Martin said in an email to residents that last year just over 1,200 citizens participated — out of 8,017 Maplewood residents — 15 percent of the community, and he hopes for more this year.
Both Police Chief Kruse and Fire Chief Merrell made it to all parties last year, and they’ll try to do that again this year. As in the past, the City of Maplewood will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, buns, condiments, chips, water, soda and t-shirts.
Call Sgt. Martin at 314-646-3617 or email him at [email protected] if you are interested in having a block party on your street.
