Approximately 60 came to hear the three candidates running for the vacant Ward 3 Maplewood City Council seat in a forum sponsored by the Hadley Township Democratic Club Monday at Schlafly Bottleworks. Gina and Nelson Mitten moderated.
The candidates answered questions submitted by the attendees (more on this to come). The candidates, Jenny Schmidt, Steve Terelmes and Kristen Spencer (ballot order) also gave opening and closing remarks, which are below.
Spencers’ closing remarks are cut short here by about 30 seconds, due to the cell phone running out of space.
The special election for the open council seat is August 8.

Thanks for posting, Doug. This is a great service to the community.
Kristen Spencer did a phenomenal job! She clearly stood out with her comments and clear passion for the city of Maplewood!
Thanks Doug for posting. There were a lot of generic remarks in these statements. But, Kristen Spencer seemed to be able to separate herself from the other two in the end during closing remarks by commenting clearly on an agenda and mentioning three points. I look forward to hearing more about the answers to questions in between the remarks.
Did any candidates say how many city council meetings they have attended the past 3 months? Did any candidates discuss a specific topic that is currently in front of the council to show they are paying attention to what they will be stepping into?
