Three new houses could be built in Maplewood if approved by the city council.
Maplewood Planning and Zoning Monday approved the rezoning of three vacant lots behind Treasure Aisles Antiques Mall and Big Bend Antique Gallery, owned by Dan Stevens.
The houses would face Jerome Avenue, but could have Florent address because they’re on a “paper street,” platted as Florent in an old city plan.
The lots are now half commercial and half residential. The commission approved rezoning the lots into one large lot, zoned residential. The one lot would, if approved by city council, be divided into three large, buildable lots.
Florent Homes LLC would like to buy all three to build craftsman style homes. Company co-owner, Kyle Mathis and his wife would live in one of the homes; the other two would be for sale. Mathis said his father has been building homes for 30 years.
Mathis said after the meeting that the houses are to have three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, be 1,600 to 2,000 square feet, and sell starting in the $170,000 range.
The council also discussed a request by Bolyard’s Meat & Provisions (2810 Sutton Boulevard) for an outdoor food cart. It would be in the parking lot area, not on the sidewalk, so city council would need to approve a new ordinance. City Public Works Director Anthony Traxler said Foley’s Bar and Grill (3522 Greenwood Boulevard) has also requested sidewalk seating.
Traxler also said McDonald’s Corporation has been in touch with him and will meet with him in the next couple of weeks to resubmit a plan. McDonald’s representatives met with residents in December, but has never presented to planning and zoning, the first step with the city.
I see the City Public Works Director said that McDonalds was in touch with him, and said they would meet with him in a couple of weeks to resubmit a plan to planning and zoning for a new McDonalds, finally. Will that be on the next P & Z meeting? Or just in the next week or two, from now ?? Just wondering, if it will be at the regular meeting?
Pat – that meeting referred to would be between just McDonald’s and city staff. They would still be required to go through planning and zoning, then city council, before anything happens.
The Bolyard’s food cart and Foley’s outdoor seating sound like great ideas!
