Maplewood Richmond Heights Middle School has been recognized as a Missouri Green School and has been nominated to the US Department of Education to be National Green School, the school reports.

The U.S. Department of Education recognizes schools taking a comprehensive approach to greening their school, incorporating environmental learning, and improving environmental and health impacts.
Middle School Principal Michael Dittrich said the nomination shows the school district’s dedication to connecting students with nature.

“I am proud that we are continuously teaching kids about health and nutrition and taking care of our community and the world around us,” he said in a release from the school. “The support that we receive from the community and the local businesses and individuals that are always there to help us improve everything that we are doing is greatly appreciated.”
