Maplewood Richmond Heights senior, Ben Speed, won first place in the monologue competition at Thescon — the Missouri State Thespian conference — in Kansas City last weekend.

Speed received perfect scores from all judges, he reported on Facebook. He performed monologues from Shakespeare and the play, Death of a Salesman. Speed will compete again in June for nationals.

Steven Tronicek, junior, also competed, and was rated superior, MRH reported.
