Two women have combined their talents and opened a clothing and home goods resale shop in Brentwood, Jen’s Resale Boutique. They say it’s unique because items can be sold on consignment and the customer can take a check or use the profit for store credit.
Jennifer Tobias and Elizabeth Milbourn kept running into each other at antique shops — Milbourn had a booth at Treasure Aisles Antique Mall, in Maplewood.
“Last time she came in she said she had found a space and was super excited and all her hard work had paid off,” Milbourn said. “Would I be willing to come in and help her decorate — she liked my style. I said of course.”
Tobias has the clothes and Milbourn has the home items.
Milbourn said she has no previous business experience. “I was a teacher, and I did the antique mall. She’s got the business savvy and I just wanted to do it, and I wanted to see her do it,” she said.
Tobias said the location on Manchester Road met all the needs for a start-up business.
“The bonus piece was not only a great partner, but also a great landlord.” She said they were able to negotiate a lease that worked well.
Many of their shoppers are from Kirkwood and Maplewood, as well as Brentwood.
“Brentwood is forward-thinking,” Tobias said. “There’s good home-root connections — very solid foundation of people.”
Jen’s Resale is at 8516 Manchester Road. It’s open Monday – Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m.
