A towering stump remains in a backyard on Myrtle Avenue (corrected here from Hazel) after an even more towering tree came down in the storm on July 13.
Neighbors said it was struck by lightning; the crown landed in the yard to the east, knocking down a garage, fences and several other trees as it fell.
KPLR reports that a massive pile on Oxford Avenue in Maplewood stretches across most of the fronts of two houses and stands nearly as tall the street signs.
Resident, Gary Guth, who lives across the street from the pile, told KPLR, “I think it’s too long to wait. I think the city should have come by at least twice … it is in the street. It shouldn’t be in the street where it is. It’s just been sitting there for so long.”
Maplewood’s public works director told Fox 2 it’s an entire tree, cut up, and was too big for the city’s public works crew to handle. The home owner was told to get rid of it.
Hey, I recognize that mess. That’s on Myrtle, btw, not Hazel.
Right. Thanks Tom!
