Maplewood Salvation Army Major Kris Wood recently told 40 South News that demand for food at the weekly food pantry continues to increase. It’s open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7701 Rannells Avenue.
He said they can especially always use food that families can get multiple meals out of.
“We’re always looking for things like peanut butter and jelly, because anything that’s going to last more than one meal is going to be beneficial,” Wood said.
He said rice and cereal are other foods that can extend beyond one meal. Apple juice or drink mixes are good for the same reason.
Deodorant, shampoo, soap and toothpaste are also needed. Wood said people don’t usually think about donating these, but people who need food haven’t been able to buy soap and toothpaste usually.
Donations can be made Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., but don’t bring it during pantry day, Wednesday, because that day is too busy.
Wood is always looking for volunteer bell ringers, because that money goes to food for the pantry throughout the year.
Thanks for the information, Doug!
