A Maplewood resident told 40 South News he heard that the Maplewood Post Office is again being considered to be closed.
He said it should be noted that the government’s fiscal year starts in October. He also said he understands they are not talking about it publicly to avoid the grass-roots opposition the last time it came up, in 2011. He said his source is very reliable and part of the postal service.
40 South asked a Maplewood postal teller on Thursday if the post office is being considered to be closed and was told the rumor is false.
An employee with the St. Louis Postmaster office said she hadn’t heard that. “Not at this time,” she said. “Even if they did decide to close it they have to have a town hall meeting and get the residents’ voices. It’s a long-drawn-out process. They can’t put out a notice saying it’s closing tomorrow.”
I like the building, like the folks there,
BUT,
Today is the day after election day. I got a bunch of campaign ads that no doubt should have arrived before the election, and a newspaper that should have arrived last Thursday.
Someone should address the fact that our mail seems to lag behind surrounding communities.
I don’t know of any other post office you can walk into and they know/call you by name. I like that.
The postal people here are super nice. Totally unlike my experience years ago when I used to go the U City post office. It needs to stay open.
