When McDonald’s representatives met with Maplewood residents Dec. 22 at the Maplewood Public Library about a proposed new McDonald’s at Manchester and Big Bend, the potential franchisee of the site, Mark Proctor, said he took a personal interest because McDonald’s allows an individual to own only one location, but he also told the group he owns the McDonald’s in Webster Groves.

The Webster University publication, The Journal, said Michael Proctor owns the Webster Groves Old Orchard McDonald’s, as well as 10 others in the St. Louis area, in a 2012 article when the Proctors bought it in January 2012. It was demolished and a new McDonald’s built in its place.

Both Michael and Mark Proctor were a signers to register P&P Management with the state in 1999 along with James and Peggy Proctor. P&P Management is now P&P Restaurants.

Residents in the meeting wanted to know why the McDonald’s near Deer Creek was partially renovated, including resurfacing the parking lot, then abandoned. It closed in July 2014. McDonald’s real estate manager, Tom Maraist, said it was a private matter between that owner and the McDonald’s corporation.

McDonald’s construction manager, Dan Gross said if the Manchester and Big Bend location fell through the old Deer Creek spot would be renovated, though Proctor disagreed.

  1. When is enough, enough? Ellis residents don’t want a McDonalds in our neighborhood to cause traffic, trash, stinking odors, noise and light pollution. Go away.
