Union Pacific Railroad has placed warning markers on  both sides of the tracks at Sutton Boulevard. That’s following a January 5 incident when a man accidentally turned onto the tracks and narrowly escaped before a train came.

A resident pointed out that federal regulations require railroad engineers to sound the horn approaching a crossing unless the community opts out. Emergencies being an exception. And that Maplewood must have opted out. This is the the no horn sign from Greenwood Blvd. It is an X with the letters QZ – quite zone.

  1. It is a horn free zone. As a resident who lives two blocks away I really hope they don’t change that. Not sure how a horn would have prevented either of the last two incidents. The markers may help prevent an incident like the last one where an unaware driver confused the tracks for the road.
