In July Maplewood resident Brad Jackson filed law suits against the city of Maplewood; Maplewood Mayor Barry Greenberg; Kate Bethel, owner of Maven Bath and Candle Co., and Isaac Chosich, an employee at Maven. He has now explained his allegations in a video in this link.
Details of the suits are posted on casenet, case number 24SL-CC03556. All of the allegations are in the petition.
Jackson is being represented by attorney and Maplewood resident Mark Edward Blankenship of the Ott Law Firm.
Bethel has commented on the claims, per her attorney: “The claims made are untrue and I will be taking the steps necessary to reach a just outcome.”

Details of the law suits Maplewood Mo Mayor Barry Greenberg, “Now, there’s one thing you might have noticed I don’t complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall out of the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain’t going to do any good; you’re just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it’s not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here… like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There’s a nice campaign slogan for somebody: ‘The Public Sucks. F*ck Hope.”

Maplewood MO It is what it is –
Example of City playing “Fast and Loose”, from 40 South News – In contentious (but civil) meeting, city council appoints Amber Withycombe as new city manager By Doug Miner -December 13, 2023
In contentious (but civil) meeting, city council appoints Amber Withycombe as new city manager.
Jennifer Phillips said it’s a “disservice to fill the largest position that we have in the city without so much as posting or even making public any type of job description. It also makes me wonder where else in our city we cut corners, where else we take the easy route because it’s quick, because we happen to know someone, because we threw our friends’ names in a hat…” Mayor Nikylan Knapper spoke, defending the council and its hiring process for the new city manager. This is what is happening in Maplewood MO. It does not matter who the mayor is or who the council persons are. Maplewood MO “It is what it is” Fast and Loose.
Sure sure. But I guess what felt more authentic during the city manager hiring process was that Mayor Knapper excused herself from the hiring process after nominating Ms. Withycomb based on the fact that they knew one another and Mayor Knapper could see that it would be problematic for her to remain a part of the process. According to the evidence documents, Mayor Greenberg appears to have created this whole shitshow himself for himself. And on top of it, he didn’t excuse himself from the ethics review process, he had to be told by another council member that it would be problematic for him to play a role in the ethics review.
Questions….Who is on the Maplewood Ethics Review Committee? Or must this be kept under wraps for the safety of those involved?
It appears from the exhibits presented on casenet that the ethics review consisted of Nick Homa, Matt Coriell, and Eric Page. It also appears Mayor Barry Greenberg had to be asked to not participate in the ethics review/hearing by Nick Homa. As I see it, Mayor Greenberg could/should have excused himself long before it had to be suggested by Mr. Homa that he not participate. The emails from Mayor Greenberg show his knowledge of what is going on and also show that he did not excuse himself from the process. That seems like shady behavior to me and I am grateful Mr. Homa stepped in to point out his involvement would be problematic.
Wow, I appreciate the explanation from Brad Jackson. Casenet can be hard to follow but if you go to the Docket Entry tab and scroll down to 7/31 there is a ‘+’ plus sign next to “Pet Filed in Circuit Ct.” Tap on the ‘+’ to reveal another ‘+’ with the word “Petition” next to it. Tap on that ‘+’ next to petition to reveal the emails sent between Mayor Greenberg and Kate Bethel.
I’m not sure how Isaac is named in this petition. Based on the casenet information, he brings up valid points, and completes his post, as “Take it as you will”.
What’s the issue with Isaac?
Because Mr. Chosich was mean to this green screened goofball on the internet. And because it’s totally legal to make a list of people who were mean to you, take it to your local Personal Injury buddy and have them file a suit to fish for settlement. If you’re the goof ball you’re thinking hey this is easier money than working and even easier than my usual various alternative entrepreneurial ventures plus The people who are being sued need to pay money for their legal defense, but you only have to sign over your a part of your settlement to pay your guy. Even if you lose you get the satisfaction of causing anxiety and a financial headache for your enemies list. And if your the Saul Goodman guy in the situation here you’re thinking hey easy money, Maplewood has been publicly dragged through the mud lately so they will want to avoid doing that again and I know they settle lawsuits left and right. Good work of you can get it.
Likely the fact that he helped distribute confidential material regarding the ethics review process (which appears to have first been leaked by Mayor Greenberg via Ms. Bethel). His points, valid or not, have no legal weight. He participated in spreading confidential material and also contributed to defamation. Of course this is all just a personal analysis and assumption. My English teacher in high school always told me when you “assume” you make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.” So again, take it as you will. I look forward to seeing what comes to light.
