July 3 marks the 97th anniversary of the death of Richmond Heights City Marshal George McCready. McCready was shot on July 2, 1922 while attempting to locate suspicious suspects at the intersection of Del Norte and La Veta avenues. He succumbed to his wounds at the hospital on July 3.
On May 30th of this year Richmond Heights Police dedicated and renamed the department’s sally port (the department’s new secure entryway that allows prisoners to be safely transported into their jail) in the memory of two Richmond Heights officers killed in the line of duty.
The sally port was named for Marshal McCready and Patrolman George Louis Johnston, who died in the line of duty in 1953.
