Brentwood High School senior Sophia Rivera — Wisconsin signee and three-time state champion in the discus and shot put — is returning to the elite national meet, the Kansas Relays, this month as the defending champion in javelin and shot put. She will also compete in discus, according to her mother, Michelle Hassemer on Twitter.
Update: Rivera withdrew from the Kansas Relays following her javelin throw of 180-4 that qualified her for the Olympic Trials, for a new training and competition schedule, Hassemer said on Twitter.
She is ranked #1 in the country in javelin going into the meet with a posted throw of 160’6″ though her personal record, thrown on April 13, is 176’3″, recorded by Hassemer, on Twitter (below).
