Schaefer Shell, on the corner of Manchester and Big Bend in Maplewood, was demolished Monday morning to make way for a new Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.
Jerry McCain, senior construction manager for Raising Cane’s, on the site, said they hope construction on the new restaurant will be finished in March or April; depending on the weather.
I would argue that there aren’t many “local” or no chain businesses that would be an ideal fit for that location. Look at each corner now, White Castles, CVS, Quicktrip, and now Canes/Jack in the Box. For that location kudos to them for building it out and seeing the value in it.
This is great! I live in the East Side and often take the Metro Link. I can’t wait to hang out in Maplewood and have some delicious fried chicken. So many places to chose from! Be seeing you soon my Maplewood Peeps!
This comment definitely has some sarcasm when I read it.
You sure can. Enjoy a nice lunch cuz then head on to the Galleria for an afternoon of “shopping”. So much fun….
This comment definitely has some racism when I ready it. You three must be our stereotypical older generation. Catch my sarcasm?
I can’t wait to try out Raising Cane’s. Hope it’s good food.
There is a Canes on Manchester near the Ed Jones Campus if you wish to try there food. Its nothing special. I actually prefer the chicken at the deli in Schnucks.
There’s also one in the Galleria, at the food court. It won’t change your world, but it’s pretty good for what it’s trying to be.
The good news is that for the moment, it is easier to see the beautiful Hendel Family decorations! Love this every year!
A shame to see such a great part of our community gone! Shell was always eager to help wether it was car washes for church groups or knights of columbus BBQ’s or giving rides home to customers while their car was being worked on. And they were always happy to donate to our school trivia nights. They will be greatly missed!
yeah, agree with the above… would have loved to see something other than yet another fried chicken place.
Big Bend and Manchester will become even more dangerous with all that grease on the roads from the many deep fryers in the area..
Yes. More fast food. And fried chicken place #5 within a 1 mile radius. Great job all.
Welcome to Maplewood, the Fried Chicken Mecca.
