Brentwood High School senior (coming year) Sophia Rivera won both shot put and discus at the state meet for the third year in a row this spring, and already has had a busy (amazing) summer, her mother, Michelle Hassemer reports. So far she’s:
- Competed in Havana, Cuba and won gold (shot put), silver (javelin) and bronze (discus)
- Won the High School National Championship in shot put and javelin
- Placed sixth at High School Nationals in discus
- Placed second to a 2x NCAA shot put champion at the under-20 National Championships to make team USA for Pan Am Juniors in Canada
- Is US#1 in high school shot put, and US#2 in high school javelin
- Won the 3k shot put and 500g javelin and set national records at the World Youth Trials and made the under-18 team to represent the USA at the World Youth Championships in Cali, Columbia.
