Brentwood High School junior Sophia Rivera won girls shot put in the New Balance Nationals Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York City with a winning throw of 49 feet 1 inch on March 15. Her first throw was her longest of her five in the meet.
Rivera’s winning throw was almost a foot and a half farther than the all-class record for shot put in the state of Missouri, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Rivera won Class 2 state titles in the shot put and discus as a freshman and sophomore.
