On Thursday, May 5, the Brentwood Community along with 51 other city halls in the St. Louis area held a National Day of Prayer.
Every first Thursday of May, Christians and Americans of other faiths come together at their local city halls and pray for their land locally and nationally. The mission of the Day of Prayer is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in our culture.
Saint Mary Magdalen students, as well as our Pastor Father Jack Siefert, joined other Brentwood citizens at the Brentwood City Hall. Father Jack was one of several area pastors to speak at the National Day of Prayer. Father Siefert spoke on the topic of education. He reminded us, “Keep God as part of that education of the human spirit for without it the spirit dies but with it the possibilities are endless.”
Saint Mary Magdalen students led the Pledge of Allegiance, listened to various pastors talk about the importance of God in our lives, and prayed for special intentions. The students were blessed to attend this very important public prayer service and were reminded of how blessed we are to be free to practice our faith in our nation.
So much for separation of church and state.
Indeed. I don’t see city hall as an appropriate place to discuss Christian perspectives on “personal repentance and righteousness”.
