Friday night a suspected drunk driver was involved in a single-vehicle accident that closed Big Bend Boulevard for several blocks south of Dale Avenue. The driver was uninjured.

The driver hit a street light, an electrical pole, a fire hydrant, a tree and a house on Lindbergh Drive before it came to a stop, according to a Richmond Heights police officer. According to the Ameren UE website 168 customers were without power due to downed wires at 1 a.m. Saturday.

Ameren UE arrived at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday to replace the snapped pole.

The Richmond Heights police officer said all or parts of Big Bend could be closed while the pole is replaced, which could take up to 24 hours.

  1. Man, now, he really did a job on that corner!….years ago, my husband and I had to pick up my grandpa at the Richmond Heights Police Department, after he hit the fire hydrant at that corner. He was sitting all hunched up when we walked in and he looked up at me with the saddest face on him and said…” I did a bad thing, Patty”. I kind of giggled to myself, and said back ” You sure did, Grandpa!”. He looked so sad…..
