Hanley Road has been re-striped, creating a third southbound lane between Hanley Industrial Court and Manchester Road to reduce backups, according to St. Louis County.
The new lane becomes a dedicated right turn only lane as Hanley approaches Manchester.
David Wrone, public information manager for the Departments of Highways and Traffic and Public Works said, before the re-striping, right-turning drivers became sandwiched with drivers continuing through the intersection, which caused cars behind them to stack up.
Nearly 40,000 vehicles use Hanley north of Manchester on a typical weekday.
