At Brentwood mayor, Pat Kelly’s coffee with residents in January he said a major retailer is moving out of Brentwood Promenade, but he wouldn’t say which one.
It appears he was talking about Thomasville Furniture. The space is now vacant. He said a new tenant is lined up, but Tuesday afternoon there was no evidence who that might be.
I believe the tax abatements on the Promenade are over and paid off way ahead of schedule. When a property is succesful people tend to forget that fact. What if we did not use those incetives 15 years ago. What would the promenade look like now. As long as we replace Thomasville who I think was Gateway Computers first with something better like Zany Brainy into Trader Joes, Sports Authority (Moved down the street) into a Micro Center Store I all for change and diversity. Not every business is NOT going to succed even with the traffic counts for the Promenade, perhaps they had a BAD
business or marketing plan. I think that with the Target store expansions a few years back this and the new stores that just took over the Shane Co. I think the Thomasville space will not be vacant very long. I think the retailers like the fact that there is such demand that people will put up with some parking issues.
As usual the new so called Malls outside retailers give up and so do I, major parking problems and selection of stores, how much Tax abatement was givin? Give me Mom and Pop shops… Keep it home town
Thomasville may not be mom and pop, bit it is hometown. Its parent company is headquartered in Clayton. It doesn’t surprise me that the single brand store couldn’t make it. I like Thomasville, but it was competing with other local furniture stores selling the brand, and with all the sales and pricing shenanigans. That might work for iPads, but not for sofas.
