‘Threat of flood’ closes Cousin Hugo’s (it has reopened)

Three days of rain hasn’t flooded Cousin Hugo’s, next to Deer Creek Park, but owner Tommy Bahn closed the restaurant Sunday and up to lunch on Monday, because of a “threat of flood” he said.

The low area next to the restaurant has standing water, coming within feet of the building. Bahn said the storm sewers are backed up, and no one is taking responsibility for them.

He was the only one there Monday at 11 a.m. — normal opening time. All the chairs were on tables, and Bahn was in a booth wearing waders, waiting out the rain and hopefully not a flood.  Bahn said he had a nice Christmas but has had about five hours of sleep in the last 72, since then.

Update: Cousin Hugo’s reopened on Dec. 29 for lunch, with no water damage.

  1. MSD did come out on Sunday to the park, I do not know if they did anything to the sewers though, because they were not there very long.
