Sunday night’s storm brought enough rain to push sewer covers into streets and float cars, according to a Yale Avenue resident, and hail an inch in diameter or larger. Maplewood police said no injuries were reported.
Police reported a good amount of localized flooding. “Very heavy flooding was reported in the 2600 block of Big Bend,” police said. Officers reported a couple of vehicles got stuck in the flash flooding in different areas throughout Maplewood.
Police said there were several calls of wires down throughout the area and a power outage was reported in the area of Maple and Sutton. Also, multiple residents complained of flooding basements.
Brentwood Police said there was no significant damage. Richmond Heights officials haven’t responded to a request for information.
Yale Avenue resident Matt Coriell sent photos to 40 South News, reporting that “Yale Avenue was flooded. The manhole covers blew off and shot water six feet in the air, flooding several basement and cars—actually floated my car on the curb.”
Coriell said that now that it has drained everything is cover in muck and it stinks. He contacted MSD and they are sending out a team to investigate and cleanup. He said the number to call for that is 314-768-6260.
