Two Maplewood Richmond Heights High School student signed this spring to play in college, and their friends and family got together this week to celebrate.
Mariah Russell will be playing volleyball at Andrew College, in Pennsylvania, and Andrew Weaver signed with Lincoln Land College in Springfield, IL, to play basketball.
“These are great kids who worked really hard through their high school career, and academically and athletically have put themselves in a position to go to the next level,” MRH Athletic Director Rich Nixon said.
Russell had 51 aces in 216 serves, scoring a total 130 points as a senior.
Weaver averaged 17 points per game in his senior year, hitting 43 percent of his 2-point shots and 36 percent on 3-pointers.
Excellent! Congratulations to both student athletes. Well done.
