Residents in the 35 apartments at 7232 Sarah Street, in Maplewood, were without water service for about three and a half hours Thursday afternoon, according to two renters there, and they concurred that it was because the owner of the building hadn’t paid the Missouri American Water Company bill.
It was turned off around 1 p.m. Thursday, and a Missouri American Water service person was there at around 4:30 turning it back on.
One resident of the building said the water company had posted a sign near the front door informing the residents of the situation, which has since been removed. He said he heard later that the landlord had a different explanation. “So there’s two stories here,” he said.
Another said water is paid for by the management, so if it wasn’t paid that’s who is responsible. She said residents pay for all other utilities.
The service person said the water had been turned off, but he didn’t have the record so couldn’t say why.
Wyze Properties LLC owns the building, and also the apartment building at 7221 Sarah Avenue, according to St. Louis County records.
