Each year one St. Louis area homeowner is chosen to receive a front yard makeover – transforming excess turf into a native Missouri landscape. Since 2006, Wild Ones – St. Louis Chapter, Grow Native! and Shaw Nature Reserve have sponsored the Landscape Challenge, which encourages homeowners to landscape with native plants.
The organizations provide the services of a professional landscape designer, up to $1,500 worth of native plants and other landscape materials, and the volunteers to install the landscape. The homeowner prepares the site and agrees to maintain the new plantings.
The 2017 Landscape Challenge pool of eligible homeowners is based on home owners in the 63117, 63143 and 63144 zip codes; also 63105, 63124 and 63132. Applications are due May 31. The planting date will be on Saturday, September 23.

Funny, but this “native plants” thing rings a bell.
Does anyone remember what it was?
Do you also win a summons from the City of Maplewood for too many native plants?
