A Brentwood woman was struck and killed by two vehicles Sunday evening on McCausland Avenue after leaving Olympia Kebob House (1543 McCausland Avenue), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Candi McNeal, 45, was struck shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday and taken to a hospital, where she later died, according to the Post-Dispatch. Both drivers stopped after the accident.
McNeal was hit by a southbound Volkswagen Passat. The impact forced her into the northbound lanes and was hit by a Nissan pickup.
The driver of the Nissan said he had a green light, and McNeal and a man suddenly walked into the road. The man McNeal was with was not injured.
Olympia has a parking lot across from McCausland. A pedestrian-controlled traffic signal allows the diners to cross safely.

Tragic. I drive that road all the time. The lights work properly. Please people, be patient. I see people cross without the walk sign and against traffic all the time. Traffic tends to travel better than 35 MPH on this stretch (even though the limit is 30) so the best way to protect yourself is to wait for the crosswalk sign.
So tragic. My heart sank when I saw this report this morning. I remember the fatal accident from 2004 as well. I have to admit that I avoid that stretch of McCausland. Every time I drive it I am reminded of how unsafe it is. In this case, it appears the pedestrians exercised poor judgment, but I believe the Felders were crossing appropriately. It was a hit and run, wasn’t it?
The previous fatality was in 2004 that I was thinking of Eunice Felder was struck by a hit and run driver who ran the red light. Here is the link:

Oh no. Not again. How terrible. Mrs. Felder was killed crossing the street there a number of years ago. Her husband survived his injuries. I don’t know if there was a light there then.
