Daryl Anderson is 56 and has worked at the Maplewood Shop’n Save for 15 years. Since last year he’s worn a world championship ring on his right hand.
Anderson plays senior slow pitch softball. Last year his over-50 league team won the ISA World Championship game in a tournament in Columbus, Indiana, beating a team from Chicago. They went undefeated on the year. Anderson is a pitcher and was 10 for 10.
“I’ve played ball all my life,” he said. “In high school I played baseball, football, basketball. I never thought when I got 50 I’d still be playing ball, but I’m still able to play, so I’m still out there.” Anderson went to Roosevelt High School.
His team — Team O5O, which stands for over 50 — travels for the weekend tournaments. “You have to travel to get stiff competition. You don’t want to play guys you’re just going to beat up on,” he said. This year they’ve gone to Las Vegas, Cincinnati and Florida.
