Attorney general again sues MRH over mask mandate, district responds

Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is one of six districts that reinstated a mask mandate recently, and as a result was sued, again, by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, who claimed they had no authority to do so, as reported by KSDK and other sources.

MRH was the only one that supplied KSDK with a substantive  response:

“The Maplewood Richmond Heights School District is committed to ensuring the safety of our students, staff and community. We feel these new lawsuits do not recognize the obligation of school boards to address the transmission of communicable diseases in schools and their responsibility to maintain a safe school environment. We believe these lawsuits continue to be a distraction to school leaders regionally who are already taxed with efforts to keep school doors open and students safe. The lawsuits filed by the Attorney General do not reflect a prudent use of taxpayer funds nor the human resources required to address them. It is our hope that we can focus our efforts where they matter most: navigating the inequities that the pandemic has exposed and educating our students. This is our moral purpose.”

  1. Those lawsuits are a total abuse of tax payer money and he should charged with fraud and filing frivolous lawsuits. It also wouldn’t hurt if he was disbarred as a result.

  2. Rather than trying to denigrate and criminalize one of the finest school districts in the state of Missouri for protecting the health of it students and staff, Eric Schmitt should disguise himself and try to get a real job so he can stop wasting everyone’s time with his own attempts at self-aggrandizement. Because he sucks at being who he is.

    • We already lost another child in Jefferson county. This guy has zero medical back ground. Just trying to make a name for himself, at the Children’s expense. What’s next? Suing hospitals for their mask mandates?

      • I don’t think he ever claimed to have a medical background. He cited a presentation from a group of doctors.

He argued that masks bring “negative impacts” on children such as “loss of learning, mental health issues, social isolation, and more.” He cited a presentation from a group of doctors in giving more reasons for filing the lawsuits.

Do you have any evidence, these are invalid reasons? Maybe the pros and cons should be evaluated.

        School response:
navigating the inequities that the pandemic has exposed and educating our students.
I’d be interested in learning more about what MRH is doing to navigate the inequities and what the cost is to taxpayers?

        2. The school district should at minimum present some facts to counter Schmidt’s claims.

And to the posters, attacking Schmidt, but not questioning the pros/cons of mask wearing for children. Go put on your mask and take a seat with the 3rd graders.
