Police: 11 shoplifting arrests last week at Maplewood Commons

Monday, March 24

  • Police are investigating a reported theft of two checkbooks and other miscellaneous documents from a desk at a business in the 2300 block of S. Big Bend Boulevard.
  • A vehicle was stolen from the 2000 block of Westfield Court. The owner left it running in front of the residence while she ran inside for a brief moment. Several minutes later, the owner of the vehicle heard what sounded like an engine revving. When she looked out the back door she saw her vehicle traveling east on W. Bruno Avenue. The victim’s vehicle was later found in the early morning hours of March 25 in East Alton, IL.  Police have identified a person of interest.
  • Police arrested a 19-year-old woman on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.

Tuesday, March 25

  • Two license plates were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2700 block of Oakland Avenue. A similar incident occurred in the 7500 block of Ellis Avenue.
  • Police arrested a 59-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman on suspicion of stealing approximately $875 in merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.
  • Police arrested  a 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman on suspicion of stealing approximately $445 in merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.
  • Police arrested a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.

Wednesday, March 26

  • License plates were stolen from a vehicle parked in the 7400 Flora Avenue.
  • Police responded to the 3700 block of Greenwood for a reported disturbance. Police found that two men had been arguing. One of the men voluntarily agreed to leave the residence for the evening. No arrests were made or charges filed.

Thursday, March 27

  • Police arrested three woman on suspicion of shoplifting approximately $345 in merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.

Friday, March 28

  • Police arrested a 17-year-old man and a 20-year-old man on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.

Saturday, March 29

  • Police arrested a 29-year-old man for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after responding to the 2400 block of S. Big Bend for a reported suspicious person call.
