The second annual Amber Sky Milk Donor Dash was Saturday — a 5K, 1 mile, and toddler trot and baby wearing/baby-bearing race to support breast milk donation.

The run’s mission is to raise awareness about breast milk donation, specifically for the non-profit The Milk Bank, with collection depots locally at Amber Sky and Cardinal Glennon. Amber Sky hopes to make it easier for St. Louis-area families with extra milk to know that they can share their extra breast milk and help other babies, especially those who are critically ill.

Among the crowd in the 5k race was Donovan McBride, 14, from Waterloo, IL, who was born with spina bifida and wasn’t expected to walk at birth, but has overcome great odds to walk and now has become a para-athlete, according to Riverbender.com. He races in an special racing wheel chair some call “the green machine,” Riverbender reports. McBride’s mother brought him, and said she’ll drive him to any race within an hour and a half drive.
