Signalized pedestrian crosswalks will grow from one to eight at the the Skinker/Clayton intersection due to $1.6 million in federal funding, according to nextSTL.

Interstate 64/40, Oakland Avenue, Clayton Avenue, and McCausland Avenue converge at the intersection, which has been difficult at best, for pedestrians or bikers trying to cross over to Forest Park. Crosswalks, pedestrian light buttons and curb cuts will be added, and traffic lights and lanes will be realigned.

Work should begin in spring 2015. The plan will be on view at an informal open house at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 6337 Clayton Road, 6 to 7p.m. April 30th.

Another intersection that doesn’t accommodate pedestrians with signalized crosswalks is Manchester and Hanley roads. Though it’s in Maplewood, the intersection is maintained by St. Louis County. A representative said it will be five to 10 years before any changes are made.

  1. When will pedestrian crosswalks be added at the intersection of Manchester and Hanley??!? How many years has it been since there has been a pedestrian crosswalk signal light at Hanley and Manchester? Which government entity has the responsibility for this intersection? Maplewood or Brentwood? Or MODOT as Manchester is a MO Highway?
