It was forced into receivership and a court-ordered auction this summer. Brad Pollard and Heather Pardo bought the lanes before the auction began.

Pollard and Pardo have invested in a new parking lot, roof, awnings, ceiling in the bowlers area, bar and kitchen, floor tiles in different areas and a lots of paint, Pollard said.

They had a soft opening, were open about a week, then closed again to make further repairs to the bar and snack bar. Pollard said the previous owner was allowed to grandfather in things that weren’t to code.

They were open over the weekend, but could be closed this week while they try to finish the work.

“We may just wait until next weekend to open up,” Pollard said. “Nothing ever goes as fast as you think it will.”

He said they’re waiting on new equipment to have a fully-operational snack bar and bar. For right now they have bottled beer and soda and bowling.

They’re working on getting leagues started. A Monday league starts on Nov. 18.

The bowling center is non-smoking by ordinance, and they decided to make the bar non-smoking too, though Pollard said they probably could have gotten around it.

“The previous owner was able to have smoking by a loophole or whatever,” Pollard said. “We figured the laws aren’t going to get any more lenient.”

When the lanes are fully operational the hours will be noon to midnight seven days a week.

  1. There was no loophole for the no smoking variance. As the campaign manager for the St. Louis Bowling Proprietors Assocation in the campaign Citizens Against Proposition N, the exception for Shrewbury Lanes and any facility with seating less than 50 was passed by voters.
