Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary is a “vibrant” Girls on the Run site, fielding a team every spring since 2012, according to Executive Director Courtney Berg. The new season started this week with 23 MRH girls participating led by seven volunteer coaches.
One of those coaches is Lindsey Trieu, a junior at Brentwood High School, a volunteer coach at MRH Elementary for two seasons. She is an alum of the program, at McKinley Classical Leadership Academy, in St. Louis city.
Strange Donuts’ charitable organization, Strange Cares, has supported the MRH Elementary team for several seasons, offering scholarships and support. Berg said it’s inspiring to see how Strange Cares and Strange Donuts founder, Jason Bockman’s personal and professional commitment to gratitude and community completely align with the Girls on the Run (GOTR) curriculum and core values — “express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions.”
Also, Kimberly Berry, member of the GOTR board of directors and a GOTR coach at Bermuda Elementary in Ferguson-Florissant School District is a Maplewood resident.
Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running, according to its website.
