McDonald's in Old Orchard, Webster Groves

Residents of the 7500 block of Ellis Avenue received a letter from the Maplewood city manager, dated Dec. 31, announcing that McDonald’s has decided to postpone its presentation at the city’s planning and zoning meeting Monday. A resident texted the letter to 40 South News.

McDonald’s regional real estate manager Tom Maraist said McDonald’s has asked the city for a continuance.

McDonald’s representatives met with Ellis Avenue residents and others Dec. 22 to discuss plans for a new restaurant on the southwest corner of Manchester and Big Bend, which turned into question after question about noise, traffic, safety, trash and other resident concerns.

Maraist said on the phone Friday to 40 South that legitimate concerns were expressed at the meeting that “we feel like we can and should intelligently address, and we just need more time to do that.”

A McDonald’s near Deer Creek closed suddenly in July and has remained closed.

  1. Let’s hope they pull out all together! And those homes that are set to be torn down for this-really? No more homes should be torn down for business!

  2. i definately agree, with all the changes in maplewood in the past few years; especially that corner things need to settle down. No more change. I protest McDonald’s moving to the corner of Manchester and big bend 100%!!!

  3. Note: The meeting was postponed, not cancelled.
