Richmond Heights seems to have a thing for pink flamingos. Last summer pink flamingos mysteriously populated the 1100 block of Yale Avenue, now the plastic birds are part of an ongoing fundraiser for Little Flower Church, the St. Louis Review reports.
Resident, Mary Hazelwood, coordinates Little Flower Parish’s flamingo fundraiser—anyone can pay $20 to “flock” someone’s house for two days. The “flockings” have been commissioned as far away as Colorado. See also: Flamingos invade Richmond Heights neighborhood
Alice Provaznik, a “serial flamingo-er” told the Review, “It’s just a happy, fun thing to do.” She often sends flamingos to her grandchildren, among others.
Hazelwood considers it a ministry more than a prank. She told the St. Louis Review it’s been done “long before I was around … in the parish.” Apparently no one knows how it began, though there was once a pink flamingo ministry at All Saints Parish in St. Peters.
