Heat advisory: where to stay cool in Maplewood

Maplewood Fire Chief Terry Merrel has sent out a notice that the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect until Sunday, July 19 at 8 p.m.

Local cooling centers are available:

  • The Salvation Army, located at 7701 Rannells Avenue, is open today (Friday) until 4:30 p.m. Their phone number (314) 781-5434.
  • The Maplewood Public Library, located at 7550 Lohmeyer Avenue, is also available today (Friday) until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Their phone number is (314) 781-2174.
  • The Richmond Heights Recreational Complex, located at 8001 Dale Avenue, is available today (Friday) until 9:00 P.M., Saturday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Their phone number (314) 645-1476.

If you require assistance with transportation to one of these cooling centers, please call 314-645-3000.

If you suspect you are feeling any heat related illnesses, call 9-1-1 immediately. Family, friends and neighbors are also urged to check frequently with older adults and those with special needs who may need assistance during the hot weather.
