Andrew Gates, communications specialist for the Missouri Department of Transportation, St. Louis district, has relayed information on planned work for Manchester Road between S. Big Bend and Lindbergh boulevards. The work includes lane closures near Lindbergh in the near future, and a full closure next summer to replace the Black Creek bridge, which is just west of South Hanley. The report from Gates:

We are getting closer to work starting on Route 100 (Manchester Road) between Big Bend and Lindbergh.  Our utility partners have been working hard to clear the construction area of their utilities, and this will continue for some time. Our contractor is determining those areas where they can work around those utility partners and is anticipating starting on the project later in the month.

Right now, they are expecting to start work on the western portion of the project near Lindbergh, and start work in the eastern portion of the project near Big Bend in a couple of months, after more of the needed utility relocations are finished. Most of the current work will require having one lane closed in either direction, and will be completed outside of peak traffic hours, which may vary depending on the location.  Most of the work west of McKnight will take place at night, due to the higher traffic volumes, while most of the work east of McKnight will be able to be completed during daytime hours.

As crews are working out here on sidewalks, drainage and roadways, please slow down and avoid distractions to keep both yourselves and those crews safer.

Some of the more impactful portions of the project are expected to be worked on next summer.  Right now, we are planning a full closure of Manchester next summer to replace the Black Creek bridge, which is just west of South Hanley. This work will take place most likely between May and August next year to reduce the impact to school traffic. More information on that, and detour routes, will be shared as we get closer. At roughly the same time, we will have around the clock lane closures – one lane in each direction — for work on the Deer Creek Bridge, just east of McKnight.

Several municipalities are taking advantage of this work to partner with MoDOT to make additional improvements. One of these improvements is to construct a shared use path under Manchester Road in Brentwood, near Mary Avenue.  This work is expected to close one lane on Manchester, in each direction, for some time in late spring and summer 2022.  Exact details are still being worked out and will be shared as we get closer to the work.

The resurfacing work for the project is anticipated to start in early 2023.  Until then, crews will be maintaining the roadway and making repairs within the project limits.
