Representatives of Great Rivers Greenway at the Maplewood City Council meeting on Tuesday presented the progress of the planned bike and pedestrian route to run through Maplewood on Oxford, Sussex, Greenwood and Cantebury avenues.
The presentation included slides showing that the planned route along Greenwood has changed from the north to the south side of the street.
GRG spoke to home and business owners on Greenwood Avenue in July and August about running the route on the south side, and said in the meeting that the south side was generally preferred, thinking that it would be a safer route. In addition, a quad-gate RR crossing at Sutton Boulevard is planned.
A trailhead is planned at the west end of the trail through Maplewood at the corner of Big Bend and Oxford where a McDonalds once stood.
The two-year design phase is partially completed. Construction is set to begin next year. To proceed, the city would need to approve the city’s share of the funding, which could take place with a resolution at a future meeting.
