Laclede Gas backhoes seem to be digging holes in every Maplewood street lately—recently in the 7400 block of Manchester Road.

Ray Hill, a Laclede Gas supervisor on the scene in front of John Stricker Auto Repair, said the project began more than a year ago, and couldn’t say when it would be finished.

The old cast iron lines are being replaced with plastic all over Maplewood. The new lines will leak less and carry the natural gas at a higher pressure.

  1. They were digging all over the Greenwood neighborhood last year – and they’ve finally moved on. It was a giant pain. They started digging next to our home to move the meter outside without even asking if that was a good place (they were digging next to the crawl space and not the cellar – we had them fix it). They dug up my landscaping and piled the dirt all over my shrubs saying “they didn’t think I cared”. They killed several perennials. It was A MESS and took FOREVER!
