Maplewood City Council Tuesday night passed an ordinance approving a stop sign on northbound Sutton Boulevard at Marietta Avenue for a 90-day trial period. Laws go into effect 15 days after being passed, which means the stop sign could go up as soon as March 26.
The reason for the sign is limited sight distance for cars trying to turn onto Sutton out of Marietta.
There was no discussion among the council before the vote, but a Marietta Avenue resident, Lore Sandweg, told the council adding a stop sign is not the entire issue. Cars are often parked right up to the intersection in no-parking zones on Marietta and Sutton, she said.
She said if the fire lane curb on the south side of Marietta near the intersection were painted yellow it would help indicate no parking, and assistant city manager, Anthony Traxler said the city would do that.
