Giant Steps is proud to announce that all three of St. Louis’ professional sports teams have signed on to sponsor its 20th anniversary celebration later this month. Giant Steps is a nonprofit organization that provides specialized school and camp programs for young people on the autism spectrum.
“This kind of generosity is typical of St. Louis sports teams,” Giant Steps Board President Bob Wallace said, “but to have all three teams — the Rams, the Blues and the Cardinals — step up to support kids with autism is a remarkable show of unity behind this important cause.”
Wallace, the father of a young man with autism, is an attorney and long-time St. Louis sports executive. He chairs the Sports Law Group at the Thompson Coburn law firm. “Our St. Louis teams have many fans in the Giant Steps community,” Wallace added, “and I know our families, staff and volunteers will deeply appreciate this extraordinary show of support for our hardworking students and summer campers.”
Giant Steps’ 20th Anniversary Gala will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Windows on Washington. In addition to cocktails, dinner and dancing, the event will feature a recognition ceremony honoring Giant Steps’ founding parents, significant donors and board members. Silent and live auctions will raise operating funds for Giant Steps’ school and summer camp programs.
Founded in 1994 by a group of parents who sought a comprehensive treatment program for their children, Giant Steps’ school program integrates therapy and special education to meet the individual needs of students aged 3-21. The organization also offers a six-week summer day camp specifically designed for children on the autism spectrum. Students and campers come to Giant Steps from more than 18 school districts in Missouri and Illinois.
