Smitty’s Bar and Grill will not be opening its second area location at 7278 Manchester Road, the former Pizza Story — at least not as scheduled in April.
In mid-April when the city approved the Smitty’s sign, partner Jim Quicksilver said they planned to open in two to three weeks, but there’s no evidence of that happening now.
A Smitty’s manager, in Chesterfield, when asked by phone on Monday when the Maplewood location will open, said, “I really don’t know, man. One of the financial guys bowed out. There’s money problems.” When 40 South asked if there was someone else who would know more, he said, “I’m the guy. That’s it.” Quicksilver has not returned calls.
A Pizza Story co-owners have had no comment. The building owner, Rob Birenbaum, said by email that A Pizza Story is in the process of selling their business.

I am disappointed! I was looking forward to Smitty’s coming into Maplewood. I have been to the West County location and the food is good. It would give us an alternative to The Post. Let’s hope whoever takes over that location is in the mid price range and tasty!
Never did like the name ‘Smitty’ so much anyway…
