The store space at 7213 Manchester Road is set to be a shop and lounge for electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), named Mape Vape. It’s on the north side of Manchester, in the block with Tiny Little Monster and Maplewood Liquor.
The business owner didn’t want information released until the opening, but it is available at Maplewood City Hall. The construction permit is for a partial demolition, which means interior walls are being removed.
If this sounds familiar it should. Alternative Smoke Shop, at 7184 Manchester Road – that’s one block away on the south side, toward the city – went before the Maplewood design and review board Thursday night. Alternative Smoke Shop also plans on selling e-cigarettes and accessories.

I love Maplewood. This e-cig and vape shop is a well-managed and most attractive shop. The talented owners designed and built it themselves. They’ve creatively used re-purposed and personal items to create a space that reflects their style…cool, fun and welcoming. Great to see the creativity and the dynamic energy of these two young owners brought that stretch of Manchester Ave. Their presence on a daily basis is an asset to the city of Maplewood. One more thing…Mape Vape is a great name!
I agree with Michelle. I wish this space was used for something with a broader appeal.
This sucks. That’s a great location for something cool and instead it’s just a stupid e-cig shop? What a waste. Who is making the decision to give a permit to this kind of shop? Is it all about the money?
It seems like the city of Maplewood, after starting to do an excellent job of cleaning the city, is telling us now, by their latest actions, that it is promoting itself toward the nicotine addicted and tattoo crowd. Maplewood was headed toward the ‘preppie’ crowd. It just seems to be taking its image a step backward.
i don’t think maplewood at all was “headed toward the ‘preppie’ crowd”. you must not walk the streets of maplewood at all. the crowd is more towards young alternative people and their families. i see tons of people in maplewood with tattoos and a ton of them are running business in our great town. you don’t seem to understand that e cigs are the latest thing and it would make sense for the town to have at least one shop. i would be happy if maplewood had a fine tobacco place where i could buy locally grown tobacco. Now are two a little to much? it may be but if they think they can make money and add tax dollars to our great city then i’m all for it. the great thing about maplewood is that there is a very diverse type of people who live here and work here and start business here. that is what is great about our town. I think the city is doing a great job getting business here and i wish we had a tattoo place in downtown maplewood.
Thank you Scott, well said! Also might I just say that I was a smoker for 10 years and have quit thanks to e cigs. I have now been cigarette (and vape) free for almost a year! The more of these places become readily available, the less smokers we could potentially have. It’s a GOOD thing!
