A truck with a high load caught some Charter Cable wires across Big Bend just south of Manchester Road a little after noon Wednesday. That truck pulled the wires down, which a second truck caught and pulled all the way down, along with the pole.

The pole was once an Ameren pole but now has Charter lines on it, so Ameren isn’t touching it. Charter isn’t equipped to respond on short notice, so St. Louis County was notified and agreed to fix the situation.

A Charter crew raises the downed wires back up to existing poles.

Maplewood fire chief Terry Merrell hoped Big Bend would be open in time for rush hour. He didn’t know where traffic would be detoured if not.

Update: At 3 p.m. Charter crews (they came after-all, instead of St. Louis County) had the pole out of the way and wires up on previously existing poles. They expected to have the work done before rush hour began.

  1. You’re quick, Beth. You’re also correct. I fixed that in seconds, to south. Thanks for keeping on top of things.
