Andrew Hartnett is running for Brentwood Ward 3 alderman, and sent this statement to 40 South News for publication. This is a duplicate of one published last week but was lost due to a web hosting issue.

Andrew Hartnett has been a resident of Brentwood, MO since 1990. He has resided on Madge, Patton, and Collier Ave with his mother Sherry Hartnett and Step Father John Nuernberger. He attended McGrath Elementary, Brentwood Middle and graduated from Brentwood High School in 2005. After a short absence Andrew returned to Brentwood in 2012 and purchased a home on Cecelia Ave where he resides with his rescue dog, Bo.

At 28 years old, Andrew is the Regional Maintenance Director for the Lawrence Group, a world renowned Architectural and locally reputable Real Estate Development Firm.  In 2014 The St. Louis Apartment Association awarded Andrew with the Rising Star of the Year Award for the entire St. Louis Region, which recognizes young up and coming individuals who have already proven themselves as not only driven and successful, but also dedicated in the property management industry.

If elected Alderman, Andrew intends to listen and openly approach Ward 3 residents to make sure their voices are heard.  “I want to hear input from all sides of any issue from the citizens of Brentwood, and as an elected official I take everyone’s  into consideration.” He also pledges to bring professional conduct back to Aldermanic meetings through responsive and professional conduct.

Andrew would like to see new housing, in relation to existing housing, neighborhood character and future building needs reviewed. Subsequently he believes a Town Center type development should be studied regarding desirability, placement and feasibility. Additionally the rapid deterioration of neighborhood roads should be addressed and properly remedied. Andrew would like to take a proactive approach to maintaining the community infrastructure, “It is imperative that we preserve our community whether it be a new or old development.”

Being a graduate of Brentwood High School, Andrew understands the importance and value of a great school district.  “We have been so fortunate to have one of the best performing schools in the county, and we need to ensure that we never stop recognizing that, because a well performing school district is one of the biggest assets a city can possibly have. I’m a big believer in giving the kids of our city a chance to grow, and by making sure they have the tools to grow they can always be ahead of the game, and be one step closer to being who they dream of being. ”

The 2014 budget shows that a large percentage of our city’s income was from sales tax.  We need to monitor our commercial redevelopment corridors “especially on Brentwood Blvd and Manchester Road” to ensure future streams of revenue.  Furthermore, should be observed with sensitivity to residential neighborhoods and the effect it may have on the character of the community. Brentwood residents enjoy a high level of services without escalated real estate taxes and Andrew would prefer to keep it that way.

The May 2013 audit identified several accounting deficiencies. In October of 2013 the follow up report by the State Auditor showed most recommendations were either being implemented or being discussed to correct these lapses. If appointed, Andrew will follow through with the changes that have been implemented to keep Brentwood on the right track.
