Mark Blankenship, the attorney representing Maplewood resident Brad Jackson’s civil law suit against the City of Maplewood, Mayor Barry Greenberg, City Manager Amber Withycombe, former Maplewood business owner Kate Bethel and her employee Isaac Chosich has “upped and walked away,” leaving the Ott Law Firm in Maplewood for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor of law at St. Thomas University’s Benjamin L. Crump College of Law in Miami, FL, according to a source familiar with the case.

The university has announced that Mark Edward Blankenship Jr. has accepted a tenure-track position as an assistant professor of law beginning in August. The position is confirmed on Blankenship’s LinkedIn page.

The announcement states, “Before joining STU Law, Blankenship was an Associate at Ott Law Firm in St. Louis, Missouri where he focused on employment, commercial, and privacy litigation.”

The source also said that Blankenship left town with unanswered questions for discovery sitting on his desk. A response to the questions were due on Friday, July 18, and calls to his office were not returned that day.

It is unknown if the firm’s owner Joseph Ott will take up the case. NOTE: Jackson has said that there is no change in the legal representation, that Ott is his attorney.

  1. This?!? This is a story?
An article on the facts of the case? Legit.

An editorialized recounting of a Human Resources issue? Drek.

    Be better, 40 South.

  2. My attorney is Joe Ott of the Ott Law Firm. While Mark Blankenship handled the initial petition filings, Joe has been co-counsel from the start and continues to represent me. There has been no change in my legal representation, and this appears to be a routine staffing transition with no impact on the case.

If we choose to bring in additional counsel, that decision will be reflected in the public record alongside any future case filings. All required filings remain current, and we are more confident than ever that the overwhelming evidence presented will support a jury decision in our favor.

In the future, we respectfully ask that coverage focus on the case itself, including the facts and filings presented, rather than isolated developments related to individual parties. If your publication intends to cover this matter, we encourage full and balanced reporting.

    Thank you.

  3. Their motto is “Constant Victory.” LMAO-seriously, it’s on the billboard by the railroad tracks off Big Bend.
